Relocation
What to Know Before Relocating to Crestline
Avery Collins · 6 min
Relocating is a big move. Here is what we tell every client before they pack a box.
Relocating is a hundred decisions pretending to be one. Where you land shapes your commute, your weekends, your kids’ schools, and what your money does over the next decade. This is the short version of the conversation I have with every family moving to Crestline.
Start with the life, not the listing
Before you open a single search filter, write down a normal Tuesday. Where is work, where is school, what do evenings look like. Homes photograph beautifully everywhere. Tuesdays do not lie. If the drive to practice is forty minutes, the chef’s kitchen will not save the deal.
The neighborhoods, honestly
Hawthorne trades square footage for history and walkability, and holds value better than anywhere in the city. Alder Ridge is resort living at the foot of the mountains with prices to match. Larkspur is the family default: newer schools, sane yards, quick errands. Mirror Lake buys you mornings by the water. Redrock is for buyers who want the landscape in the windows, and Downtown is for people who would rather walk than drive.
Timing the move
Spring brings the most inventory and the most competition. Late fall brings motivated sellers and short days for touring. If you can choose, tour in the ugly season. A house that charms you in November will delight you in June. The reverse is not guaranteed.
What I would do first
Get preapproved before you fall in love with anything, then spend one weekend here driving your actual routes at your actual hours. Two days of honest reconnaissance beats two months of scrolling. When you are ready, the first call is thirty minutes and it will save you weeks.
